After our morning hike to the Yelapa waterfall, lunch at Fanny’s, and Jody taking an accidental dunk in the water after disembarking Edgar’s panga back at FL, we cast off the mooring and headed across the bay to Punta de Mita. The SNL crew was off and running back to La Cruz. It was a super fun sail back to Punta de Mita, especially because Mathieu was feeling much better this trip and had a smile on his face the entire way, mostly standing on the net next to the forestay, getting sprayed. We also witnessed the most incredible whale craziness we’ve ever seen; it was the first time Capt. Randy and Jody ever observed a whale breach – and we saw several, not just one! So dang cool. One has to wonder how the heck animals of that size launch themselves completely out of the water. It seems to happen in slow motion. Simply spectacular.
The following morning, we received an invite from SNL for a scrumptious dinner over in La Cruz, so to make sure we’d have an appetite, Mathieu made wonderful French crepes for breakfast. OMG – what? Seriously…so good. Then we spent the rest of the morning playing in the water, surfing, SUPing, and more or less being silly. We weighed anchor in the early afternoon to head back to La Cruz (about 8 miles) for din din, but first, more whale looking, and they did not disappoint, thrilling us with more gravity-defying breaches. Unfortunately, again, we did not capture any on film, but the images are in our memories.
Back in La Cruz, we had that scrumptious dinner whipped up by Thadeus and Kristin, topped off with tequila and whiskey bourbon or some such nastiness, and truly amazing pecan cookies homemade by Jenn from S/V Danika. Wowee (can we get that recipe?).
Saturday was more fun and friends aboard S/V Danika; we thoroughly enjoyed a day on the bay, sailing on a leaner, and spying a few whales. Thank you so much, Jenn and Jas, for taking us out and feeding us the most amazing guacamole! That night, we wandered the streets of La Cruz looking for live music and found a big party in the Plaza – along with the biggest chunk of sweet bread ever! It was prepared in celebration of Three King’s Day, which wraps up the Christmas season. It was lovely to see so many locals out celebrating the joys of the holiday!
