Anegada, British Virgin Islands (BVI)

BVI flag, British Virgin Islands

Sailing to Anegada is a bit like visiting the fairytale town from Brigadoon that only appeared for a few days at a time. The only Virgin Island to be the result of techtonic uplifting of a coral bed, Anegada is almost frying pan flat, while the rest of the Virgins are volcanic. Anegada remains all but invisible until the trees and boats start to show themselves a few miles out, while the tall, green hills of the rest of the islands are always visible behind you. This sneaky profile, along with the huge reef that surrounds Anegada, making it all but unapproachable except for the southwest corner, makes this island off limits for most bareboat charterers. But for those who can go, She has many charms to share.
